MCNABB TO THE VIKINGS - As a long-time Vikings fan, I am excited the team traded for Donovan McNabb. It means my favorite team will actually be watchable this year! In a division full of quality QB's (Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler, Matt Stafford), I feared a big step backwards, but it looks like they should be playoff-caliber once again.
I'm not going to lie, I was not looking forward to a season with Christian Ponder as the QB. Who really wants to sit through 16 games of rookie mistakes and bumbling offensive football? McNabb should take command right away, the veterans should be motivated, and the 2011 season, at the very least, has hope. I am very much looking forward to the Donovan McNabb Era in Minnesota!
Just take a look at that photo of McNabb. Look at that smile! How can you not want to play for that guy?! And THAT is the part of the trade that I like the best: McNabb is a leader and hopefully the O-Line and the rest of the offense will rally behind him. By all accounts, he's likeable and funny, and he always has plenty of Chunky soup. He should be a great fit in the locker room and has an opportunity to lead this team as far as he can. I like their chances!
SIDNEY RICE TO THE SEAHAWKS - This one hurts, even though it had been rumored for a while that he'd be leaving. All things considered, it's better that the Vikings solved their QB problem, but Sidney Rice was a huge play-maker (when healthy). His departure really hurts because now teams can key in on Percy Harvin.
It's interesting that Rice went to Seattle since that's where Tarvaris Jackson, another former Viking, ended up. To be honest, I think Rice will struggle there because I don't think Jackson is that good. I thought he was decent, I gave him a chance, but he's just not a top-tier QB. Going from Matt Hasselbeck to Jackson is a big step down, in my opinion.
At one point during the 2010 football season, the Vikings were threatening to roll out Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Randy Moss on the field at the same time. With Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson also on board, that offense could have been amazing. Now, two of those three receivers are gone and the offense doesn't seem so scary.
