I heard this one today on the radio and cranked it! The man of summer, Henry Lee Summer, takes us back to the mid-eighties with this excellent cruisin' song that's fun to sing along with, "I Wish I Had A Girl".
RANDOM THOUGHTS: I really like the song itself, Henry really gets into it starting at about the 2:54 mark. This song is also a candidate for my Top 5 Mid-Song Screams By a Lead Singer list! ... As for the video, it's got it all: Mullet, check. Denim jacket, check. Babes, check. ... I'd call his antics with the ladies 'borderline harassment' except there's nothing borderline about it! It's a good thing the girls just laugh. Well some laughed, and some got violent. Hey, can't blame the guy for trying, right?! ... My favorite "move" that he tries is at the 1:40 mark: The "Corner Her In A Stairwell And Refuse To Let Her Leave" move. I can't believe it didn't work! ... I think he's on to something with the whole "stalking girls while riding a bike" strategy. It helps you keep up when they start to run away, plus it saves on gas money!
THE "MY SHARONA" GUITAR SOLO - Am I crazy, or is the big guitar solo on "My Sharona" one of the best solos ever recorded? There was a time in my life (not long ago, actually) where I'd watch this video 20 times a day. It's the best live performance of this song I've seen, check it out! The Knack - My Sharona RANDOM THOUGHTS... Of course, the main guitar riff in this song is classic. The octave-jumping bass riff heard in the intro is also doubled by the guitar, and it was written by guitarist Berton Averre. I also think the first guitar break (you could probably call it a solo, Mr. Technically) at the 1:17 mark is really good. Today, however, I want to focus mainly on the full-blown celebration of life that is the big guitar solo... THE GUITAR SOLO (2:35 to 4:06) ... ... I'm almost appalled that this song is not mentioned in Guitar World's Top 100 Guitar Solos list. I mean, what the hell?! I'm sorry, but the "My Sha...
